Colour in a Rainy Month

Another dream, another quilt started.

This time the quilt is turning out nothing like the dream. That’s okay, it’s heading in a pretty bold direction and I am not unhappy about it. To be perfectly honest, I can no longer remember the quilt from the dream. Instead, this bit of play each day in the studio is bringing me such joy in real life that the dream doesn’t matter. Isn’t that a metaphor for living?!

I’m grateful to my past self that sorted all my strips into coloured piles. It’s made jumping in to this making quite quick and easy. Improv log cabins, nothing fancy. Two logs in one colour and two in another. After the first few I did actually sketch out some possibilities so I somewhat controlled the colour placement. Each block, however, is a haphazard growth based on the size of strips I have in the general colour I need. I am NOT paying attention to value or details of colours. For example, is that a kelly green, an emerald green, a sage gree, a forest green, or a lime green? It’s just green. This goes against what I usually teach, but I also want to show some fun possibilities when you take away some of the control. She’s working so far.
