From Experiment to Playdate!

improv play playdate May 11, 2021

Sometimes you just get an idea and have to run with it. It doesn't always work, but when it does...

I've always liked a Square in a Square block. They can be very fun when fussy cutting the center, especially. But I will admit to being frustrated by the seemingly necessary precision and the resulting frustration when you just don't get it right. Also, the math when you are trying to work backward from a finished block size to a started point? Ugh!

A few weeks ago I had the idea to try and see if this is something that works as improv. That is, just cut a square and keep adding on triangles to see where you get. It was so liberating! You have to let go of perfect points and final size expectations, but those are easy to do. And once you do?! Look out!

I've already made a full size quilt top using this technique and may have started at least one other. I'm so excited by this that I decided it is going to be our next Playdate!

You can register here. As always, I am offering a Friday evening and Saturday morning option (Mountain time) so anyone from around the world can join in on the fun.
