2 Tone Version from the Quilters’ Playcation Adventure Sewalong

Warm brown and peachy yellow improvised quilt top in front of a concrete block wall

This one was WAY out of my comfort zone. Sure, the construction was the same as the others, but to only stick to two fabrics and have those fabrics be in this warm brown/yellow peach world? So not my norm. But if I am going to encourage others to challenge themselves then so shall I.

The dark fabric was a woven from Fableism. The light fabric was a chambray from Tilda. I was a bit worried that the fabric would be a challenge to work with because of the lighter weight but I was wrong. They were simply gorgeous and worked wonderfully. The resulting quilt is soft and drapey. I will definitely have to embrace that with my backing choice - likely another woven - and quilting stitches - probably a simple grid.

When it came time to laying out this version I decided to change things up. First and foremost I wanted the flame block in the middle. And when the original block below it made it look like a candle with these fabrics I kept them together. After that I decided to group the blocks that felt predominantly dark on the bottom and the lights on top. It meant sacrificing some of the original secondary designs that I loved, but created cool new ones.

In the end, I truly love this version and am excited to see it through to a finish.

Oh, and just for fun I took all the scraps I had and stitched them together into this wild two toned slab. It measures a little more than 24” x 26”. I will likely add it to the backing. At the finish, then I used all 2 meters of fabric I purchased except for a bin of selvages and trimmings.
